A further initiative, this time from Intel, to develop appropriate hardware for developing countries. The designers have studied the environments and made changes to the design of systems to meet these needs.

Launch of Classmate PCs in Sri Lanka
Hon. Susil Premajayantha Minister of Education launched Sri Lanka's first Classmate PC Lab at Sri Rahula Balika Maha Vidyalaya Malambe on 9th July 2008. The officials of Secondary Education Modernization Project, Ministry of Education, National Institute of Education, Principal, staff, parents, students of school, media personnel and officials of Intel graced the occation.
